Kayla and Krista Kummerl (The Kummerl Twins) are a commercial directing duo based in Austin, Texas who were named to Shoot New Directors Showcase 2023. As young Korean-Mexican women, they strive to catch the eyes of a Gen-Z generation through rich colors, strong production design, and youthful stories.
For them, directing heavily leans on strong visual design to bring a story to life- a natural extension of their background as Production Designers. The Twins studied film at The University of Texas, Austin, quickly fell in love with the advertising film industry, and soon found their creative voice in both production design and commercial directing. Being a directing duo is a natural extension of a life lived together, always joyfully exploring and creating as a united force.
In every facet of what Krista and Kayla create, they integrate beautifully designed narratives that reveal authenticity as they showcase the truths of the human experience. As women directors who had a rich cultural upbringing, they emphasize the importance of delivering authentically diverse stories that reflect the world we live in.
